In this insightful interview, Grant Cody, Director of the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission, discusses the significant strides the commission has made since he took over nearly three years ago. From a dire financial situation with only $330,000 in cash reserves, the commission now boasts a healthy $3.5 million, thanks to a focus on modernization, technology implementation, and expense reduction.
The commission is excited about the increased services they can now offer to the 25,000 licensed real estate professionals in Oklahoma, including a forthcoming mobile app that will provide resources and an interactive code of rules. They also plan to live stream all meetings for increased transparency.
Cody addresses the challenges posed by non-resident individuals and businesses practicing real estate in Oklahoma without a license, and the commission’s commitment to protect Oklahomans from these market entrants. He also discusses the state’s struggle with illegal foreign ownership of property.
The commission’s investigative focus is on licensee and brokerage outreach, with over 90 brokerages visited this year to help improve policies, procedures, and practices. Cody assures that the commission is there to assist, not to penalize.
